OK folks, I know you've all been waiting patiently for this ... on May 22 I'm loading up my projector, screen, speakers, DVDs and t-shirts and heading out on the road for my first extended screening tour for Troubadour Blues. I'm starting in Nashville, heading across the plains states into Colorado, then out to California, southern and northern. From there it's down to Texas and Oklahoma before I head west again to Phoenix and Sedona, Arizona. Here's the complete schedule.

A busy time here in Pittsburgh as I try to ready my house for sale and get rid of an astonishing assortment of STUFF that I've accumulated over the years. Downsizing, living on less, paying off debt, it's the order of the day in the so-called economic recovery that has yet to reach my neighborhood. I'm leaving right after Memorial Day weekend for a month-long cross-country tour that will take me to Tennessee, California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Oklahoma. Hope to see some old friends and make some new ones along the way.

Hitting the Road

Tomorrow I'm leaving on the first leg of a car trip down to Austin for South By Southwest -- once a small indie/alternative music festival showcasing Austin talent, now a corporate mega-market for all types of media that has spawned its own counter-festivals. I'll be screening Troubadour Blues on Thursday, March 15, in a small city-owned recreation center within easy walk of the Texas State Capitol and most of the "official" SXSW events. It's free, though you're encouraged to donate generously and help keep my little carnival on the road through the summer.

Looking at the date on that last post, I really need to catch this blog up to date. I'll be screening Troubadour Blues Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Memphis, and Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Winter Roots and Blues Roundup in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada -- and then sticking around to talk to music and filmmaking students on Monday and Tuesday. Here's an ad that's running next month in Video Librarian, a magazine for media buyers at library systems and university libraries.

Before the holidays hit full stride, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the many people who made Troubadour Blues a reality in 2011: people who sat through the many early screenings and gave their feedback; friends who talked me through the year-and-a-half-long editing process; Kickstarter supporters; the couple of fans who ordered 10-packs of DVDs and gave them as Christmas gifts; writers who critiqued the film and publications that ran ads and reviews.

Deleted Scenes and Outtakes

Somebody commented the other day, after visiting the site, that older video clips were hard to find. I decided it would probably be a good idea to put some of this material up near the top of the blog so that people could find it. All clips are outtakes from the Troubadour Blues project, for which I shot nearly 200 hours of MiniDV tape.

Easy Ed is the nom-de-blog of a frequent contributor to No Depression, the place to go online for all things Americana. He likes a lot of the same music that I do, so I sent him a DVD, and he responded with this lovely post. Western Pennsylvania Screenings This Week

Just a reminder, Troubadour Blues premieres this Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont (Pittsburgh) and Friday, Oct. 28, at the Erie Art Museum. Doors open for both events at 7 pm, with musical guest Mark Dignam and his band performing at 7:30 and the film at 8. You can get directions or make a reservation for the Pittsburgh screening here. There's a suggested donation of $5. Information on the Erie Art Museum screening is available here. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. DVDs and t-shirts will be available for sale at both events. By the way, a press kit for Troubadour Blues is now online. You can download a copy here.

Arts writer Manny Theiner, who also promotes shows at the Tunderbird Cafe and Garfield Art Works, wrote this article for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about our premiere next Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the beautiful Hollywood Theater (below).
