“Very interesting to read interviews and comments from this eclectic mix of Jamaican musicians and music makers. The chapters are short and concise – which sometimes leaves you wanting more but it shows the authors’ intelligence to have the reader ready to turn another page…”
Reggae Island is a document in pictures and words of the contemporary reggae scene in Jamaica during the 1990s, an era in which digital technology transformed music production and performance. The book includes one-of-a-kind photos and interviews with more than 50 artists, including Buju Banton, Shabba Ranks, Tony Rebel, Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Judy Mowatt, Oku Onuora, Junior Reid, Ken Boothe, Sister Carol, and Third World. Co-authors are Brian Jahn, a New York-based photographer who has been documenting Jamaican music and culture for more than 20 years, and Tom Weber, a teacher and filmmaker from Pennsylvania who wrote a doctoral thesis about reggae music.
